The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations is supporting the ambitious « Moocs 4 @frica and developing countries » program in partnership with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). This program marks the entry of African universities into the digital revolution through MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses).

Digital revolution is changing the way knowledge is now being shared worldwide. The recent rise of MOOCs is the signal of a radical change coming to the education sector. MOOCs integrate the connectivity of social networking, acknowledged studies, and a collection of freely accessible online ressources. Perhaps most importantly, a MOOC builds on the active engagement of several hundred or even thousands « students » all around the world, including from developing countries. 

The EPFL is at the cutting edge of university education in Africa and developing countries

The EPFL, one of the greatest scientific institutions in Europe, and among the best engineering schools in the world, has launched the program « MOOCS 4 @frica and developing countries » with the objective of sharing its courses with African universities. By 2016, the EPFL and its partners are aim to produce an impressive number of MOOCs and facilitate widespread access to high quality education, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. This revolutionary program makes a point of including teachers from the South and offering a university education which corresponds to the needs of the labour market
