The Edmond de Rothschild Design Award

Promoting public awareness of the excellence and prominence of the design field in Israeli society

The Edmond de Rothschild Design Award is conferred upon outstanding designers, both experienced and emerging, in recognition of their significant contribution to shaping contemporary culture through the creation of a unique body of work and their participation in the advancement of technology, industry and the economy.

The challenge

Despite the existence of multiple outstanding design schools and a growing number of independent design studios in Israel, recognition of the contribution made by local design to Israel’s economy and culture is still in its infancy. Moreover, Israeli art museums have been slow to adapt to global trends and offer relatively few design-related exhibitions, such as retrospectives of fashion and jewellery collections, Judaica objects and other elements of local material culture.

Our ambition

To acknowledge and support the emergence of original design work in Israel, providing active players in the field the opportunity to expand their creative, productive and academic skills and to integrate their design work into larger production networks.
